Nikon (Europe) press events are apparently scheduled, in various locations around Europe, on August 19, 2010. It is not known what will be announced at these press events, but the general consensus among various digital photography and technology websites is that the Nikon D3005 (successor to the D3000), consumer level digital SLR, will be the main item presented to the public. The Nikon D3005 is expected to have increased resolution, an updated auto-focusing system, higher frame rate, and most importantly the addition of 1080p HD video on a Nikon digital SLR.

There is also the possibility that this is a Coolpix (point and shoot) camera event. Nikon has recently been hinting that they will be launching a new high-end Coolpix camera very soon, so it could well be that this event is really a Coolpix event, or maybe Nikon is planning to break the traditional Nikon press event mold, and announce both Coolpix and digital SLR products at the same time.

The big question being asked by higher end Nikon digital SLR users is, “what about all the other digital SLR models, when will they be upgraded to higher resolution and 1080p HD video?” We will just have to wait and see.

Although the current Nikon rumors are widespread across the web, the original source of most of the Nikon rumors is NikonRumors.com.
