No real Nikon news, but lots of rumors

If you are a Nikon user and connected to the internet, I am sure that you are aware of all the Nikon rumors about new Nikon digital SLR cameras and a brand new mirror-less SLR (EVIL) Nikon camera system. Some of them apparently due before the end of the year.

The current Nikon Digital SLR camera models, according to the Nikon International website are:
FX cameras: Nikon D3x, D3s, D3, & D700
DX cameras: D300s, D90, D5000, & D3000

There are other Nikon camera models still in the worldwide Nikon distribution channel, but these are the only ones being recognized as current models by Nikon International.

The rumor mills keep predicting that we will soon see a new Nikon D3s or maybe a Nikon D4 with possibly higher resolution and full 1028 HD video. They are also predicting that there will be a D700s or maybe a D800, also with higher resolution and offering HD video. The same rumors are also there for the D300s, which some are expecting to become, or possibly be joined by, a higher resolution D400. Lastly the D90 is rumored to become a D9000, also with higher resolution and HD video.

These are of course way to many changes, to be made by Nikon before the end of the year, but one or two of them (or something similar) will probably make it in time for the Christmas sales.

This leaves the EVIL mirror-less Digital SLR rumors.

Some websites are predicting that Nikon might release a micro four-thirds or maybe even a DX format EVIL camera before the end of the year. I think that Nikon should be careful not to rush into the EVIL market too quickly. Anything less than DX format EVIL will be of very little use to professionals and photo enthusiasts, and the micro four-thirds EVIL marketplace will be overcrowded in no time.

It more than likely won’t happen, but I would love to see a DX format imaging sensor Nikon EVIL camera system that uses current Nikkor AF-S DX mount lenses.
