All you have to do is search for – Nikon Rumors – on Google and you will be given a large number of links to blogs and “legitimate” technology websites, that all talk about a new Nikon D3100, a replacement for the Nikon D90 and the Nikon D700, (they are all expected to get resolution and 1080p HD video upgrades) and a whole slew of new lenses for both Nikon DX and Nikon FX camera users. The various websites all seem to have the same source for the rumors though, which is the appropriately named NikonRumors.com.
There is also a very substantial rumor (directly from Nikon) which claims that Nikon will soon have a new high-end Coolpix (non-interchangeable lens) that will kick some Canon but. I’m not really interested but let’s see what they come up with.
More interesting to me (than Coolpix), there are also a lot of rumors about an EVIL (Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens) camera that could be available by early next year, in micro 4/3 or maybe even in DX format (or maybe I am imagining the Nikon DX format EVIL rumors because that is what I want). I would like to see Nikon ignoring Panasonic, Sony, Canon, (and the rest) and going straight for Leica’s jugular with a killer DX format sensor and DX lens mount EVIL camera.
In the lens rumors department I will have to rely solely on NikonRumors.com, since I have no ideas of my own.
Nikkor AF-S 85mm f/1.4G N: around $1600,
Nikkor 24-120 f/4 ED VR N – around $1300,
Nikkor 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 ED VR (or 28-300mm) – around $1000,
Nikkor 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6 ED VR DX – around $300
That is about it for now, nobody knows when, where, what or even if any of these things will really happen, but it would make for a more fun holiday season if they do.
